Out of Champions

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Real fell to away goals to Bayern Munich on Wednesday. A mistake just after kickoff led to a goal against Real in just 10 seconds, the fastest score in the history of the competition. Late in the match Robinho brought some spice into the Real attack and received a penalty which Ruud converted. This was after a Lucio header which appeared to seal passage for Bayern. A few minutes from time Sergio Ramos fired in the winning shot for Real, just to be called off for an apparent handball.

Champions League showdown

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Real has struggled to 2 ties in the last 2 league matches against Atletico and  Getafe.

The return match of the Champions League is starting in 30 minutes and its already looking ugly for Real. Capello has lined up Emerson, Gago and Diarra, leaving Guti, Cassano and Robinho all on the bench and Beckham is out with injury. History has shown that whenever Real tries to defend a result, they always end up losing. The only attacking players in the lineup are Raul, Higuaín and Ruud, a very defensive lineup.

If this defensive stance backfires, Capello is going to have a lot of problems back in Madrid with a multitude of frustrated fans. However, if the team set out to win and attack and fail, then the loss will be easier to take.

I hope I’m wrong and we end up winning, we’ll see in 2 hours time. Hala Madrid!

Champions League is Upon Us

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

In the past 2 league matches Real defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 through a David Beckham free kick and a Van Nistelrooy finishing header and drew to Betis in a 0-0 scoreless draw. The club is still suffering from a lack of goal scoring ability and is definitely missing Ronaldo, who scored 2 this weekend with Milan. Fortunately for Real, the other top teams are all struggling and they are still only 4 points from the top of the table.

Tonight is the night, the big night. A screwup tonight could provide for a long end to another failed season. On the other hand, a victory could provide some relief and hope for the remainder of the season. The oppenent, Bayern Munich is also struggling domestically and lies in fourth place in the Bundesliga. This first leg match is being played tonight (Tuesday, the 20th) at the Bernabeu.

Beckham Returns to Squad

Friday, February 9th, 2007

Fabio Capello has caved under the pressure of David Beckham’s teammates. After Raul, Guti, Helguera and Salgado all called for his return to the team and pointed out his exemplery behavior and dedication despite being ousted from the team.

Beckham was a happy man in training this afternoon after being called up for tomorrow’s match in San Sebastian. According to a Marca Poll, 88% of fans support Beckham’s return to the team.

Real Continue to Nose Dive

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Real suffered a 1-0 loss to relegation threatened Levante tonight in the Bernabeu. Levante got a goal from a penalty committed  by Diarra but the referee failed to signal a clear penalty on the other end of the field against Ruud. Real dominated the entire match and missed several great scoring opportunities. Robinho came on in the second half only to be injured shortly thereafter. The press hammered Capello after the match, as usual, and the fans are winning up a storm.

Barcelona and Sevilla both drew in there matches leaving Real still only 5 points from the head, now in 4th place behind Valencia.

Calderón no longer provisional

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Calderón is no longer the provisional president of Real Madrid. Judge Milagros Aparicio banned the postal mail vote, which therefore will not be counted. Calderón can breathe easy and the club can finally settle down and experience some stability.

7.5 Million for Ronaldo

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Ronaldo is now officially an AC Milan player. He said he was sad to leave Real Madrid after four and a half years. He also sent out his thanks to all the managers for his time at Real except for one. Ronaldo made it clear that he did not make the previously quoted statements that Real was hell and Capello was the devil.

Capello when asked about Ronaldo said he wishes him the best. In a survey at Marca 44% of voters said Real did well in offloading the striker and 56% believed it was a mistake.

There are good chances that Real may negotiate this week for Brazilian striker Oliviera who previously partnered up well with Joaquin at Real Betis and is now at Milan. He has not adapted well at Milan and a move to Real could be ideal for all parties involved.

1-0 Loss to Villarreal

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Watching a Real Madrid match can be compared to an exercise in frustration for any Real Madrid fan. Real fell to Villarreal in the form of a single goal by Marcos. It’s the first victory ever over Real by Villarreal. Real continued to play poorly and showed little sign of danger during the whole match. The team seems incapable of scoring goals this season and we’ve just sold the only goal scorer capable of putting the ball in the back of the net.

Top Spot in Sight

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Real Madrid could temporarly take over ‘el liderato’ of La Liga with a victory against Villarreal. Villarreal has been struggling this season, unable to extend lasts season’s success of reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League. Riquelme has been left out of tonight’s match due to apparent poor training and problems with the coach and club.

The Italian newspaper, La Stampa, quoted Ronaldo as saying, “Capello is a demon and Real Madrid was hell”. Ronaldo should be signing on Monday for a fiinal payout of €8 million to Madrid. According to Marca, Milan was also after the services of out of favor Michel Salgado but the right back prefers to stay at Real and fight for his place the squad.

Having been questioned about Beckham, Capello hinted that he may still play if he is in good form and has a good attitude.
